Theatre branding

Design for identity

project 2 is about designing a theatre identity for the performance art (PA) students. we all got put into groups and had a mini meeting about the PA brand idea. My group was OpenJar productions. I took some notes and asked some questions about their brand and this was the outcome. They explained that the background behind the 'OpenJar' name is that it relates to the 'Open book' phrase, emphasising the inclusivity for those with disabilities.

Name - OpenJar Productions'
Brand Vision - Equality and accessible
Audience - Disabled audiences and 18+ young adults

Thoughts
My initial thoughts is that I want to create something really minimal without too much detail, with a simple palette to emphasise this. When drawing my sketches I started off with illustrations that are too complicated, so I began to make more simple lines and focused more on the lid of the jar. I didn't want to create something with an actual jar as that could come across as too much. I think keeping things clean and brisk would work the best for my project.

After finding out the name of Openjar's performance, Right Path, which was about a multiple choice performance the audience got to participate in. I started to play around with the idea of multiple choices and the routes that they would decide to go down. so this meant including arrows and lines to show a path of thought. It was important that I had a few ideas for this performance and that I could be able to apply the same kind of style across the rest of my designs.

after some feedback with my tutors I decided to simplify the line and keep it one singular line as opposed to two curved ones, you can see the logo development above!
Computer screen - Logo
Taking my ideas onto the computer was really fun, after the first project I felt ready to use AI again and get started. As you can see in the images on the left, I had a look at potential typefaces I could use that would best suit the name. I wanted the typeface to appear friendly and easy to read.

When it came to creating a brand logo, I was drawing so many jars and figuring out positioning for them and constantly becoming baffled on how to make it look good. so I took away the jar and kept the lid. since the emphasise was 'Open' jar, I decided to place the lid on the 'J' and voila!
